Heute stehen ca. 17 km auf dem Programm und mittlerweile wissen wir dass diese Kilometer sehr schwer werden können. David hat uns heute morgen ein "full irish breakfast" gezaubert während Anna und Iris für Tee und Abwasch zuständig waren. Im leichten Regen sind wir kurz vor dem französischen Paar aufgebrochen um praktisch sofort mit einem Aufstieg zu beginnen. Dieser führte uns über einen nebligen Berg und dann immer an der Küste entlang durch ein kurzes Tal. In diesem Tal pausierten wir ein wenig bevor wir uns an den zweiten Aufstieg machten. Auf dem Weg sahen wir einen uralten Friedhof, einige skurrile Vogelscheuchen im Vorgarten und ein zutrauliches Lämmchen, das sich über Streicheleinheiten freute.
Today we are set to walk 17km, which - as we know by now - can be quite tough so we are prepared to take it slow. David prepared a full Irish breakfast for us today, Anna and Iris were responsible for making tea and cleaning the dishes. It was a very enjoyable morning. In a slight drizzle we left the hostel just before the French couple did, we immediately start the climb up the first foggy mountain. Afterwards we cross a small valley and always stay close to the coast. In the valley we make a short pause for lunch, before we continue with the second mountain. We also see a very old cemetery, a group of very creative scarecrows and a cute little lamb that is very happy to be cuddled.

Wir haben Weidetreppchen satt. So witzig wir sie am Anfang fanden so sehr nerven sie uns jetzt. Aber sie sind praktisch überall, manche nur mit zwei Stufen, die meisten aber mit vier. Manche total wackelig oder schräg und fast immer ganz schön steil. Wir schnauben jedes Mal schon, wenn wir sie von weitem sehen. Verblüffenderweise, obwohl wir mindestens tausend davon erklommen haben, haben wir kein einzige Foto einer solchen Treppe!

Some are tiny with just two steps, but most have four or more. Some are very shaky and old, most of them are very, very steep! We growl every time we see them in the distance. Oddly, despite having climbed surely a thousand of them, we do not have a single picture of one!

Der Weg hat es wieder in sich und wir begegnen einer holländischen Wandergruppe die erschöpft im Gras liegen (dabei haben sie nicht mal schwere Rücksäcke). Ganz oben aber haben wir einen tollen Blick auf das Tal, die Bucht und die Stadt Sneem. Runter geht es erstaunlich gut, morastig zwar aber wir sind schlimmeres gewöhnt und dann kommt die Zielgerade nach Sneem. Im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes, eine schnurgerade Straße von natürlich 4 km Länge. Anna hat irgendwie ganz den Pilgergeist heute und geht leichtfüßig voran, während sich Iris und David hinterherschleppen.
The way gets tougher as we start the second mountain. We meet a group of Dutch hikers exhausted in the grass (and they don't even have big backpacks as we do). On the peak however, we have a beautiful view of the valley, the bay, and the town of Sneem. We get down the mountain quite easily despite some deep mud - but by now we're used to worse - and then we reach the final 4 kilometers, as always. This time it is a very straight, paved road that does not seem to end. Ever. Anna is suddenly very enthousiastic, probably possessed by the ghost of pilgrim's past, and marches ahead easily, while Iris and David crawl behind.
Das B&B des heutigen Tages, Coomassig View, liegt direkt am Weg, gleich am Anfang des Ortes Sneem. Als wir ankommen sehen wir niemanden, nur ein Hund saust am Zaun entlang und bellt wie verrückt. Wir sind unschlüssig, aber letztlich geht Iris einfach auf das Grundstück. Der Hund stellt sich als nicht gerade Wachhundmaterial heraus, denn er holt sofort sein Bällchen und will mit uns spielen! Da kommt auch schon die Praktikantin heraus um uns unsere Zimmer zu zeigen.

We are reluctant to enter but finally Iris decides to just walk into the garden. The dog turns out to not exactly be guard dog material, because it fetches a ball immediately and just wants to play with us! But the intern is already there to show us our room.

Es ist ganz einfach traumhaft hier. Wir haben ein riesiges Zimmer mit ganz großen Betten und einem superschönen Bad. Maureen, die Besitzerin ist unglaublich nett, wir fühlen uns sofort richtig wohl und wollen garnicht mehr weg. Tut richtig gut nach den kleinen Zimmern in den Hostels. Unsere Kleider werden gewaschen und David will nur im Bett liegen und auf dem Flachbildfernseher alles schauen was kommt. Er steht nur einmal auf weil hier Lämmer mit der Flasche aufgezogen werden und Anna und er dürfen helfen.

He does only get up once, because Maureen tells us she has two little lambs to bottle-feed and he and Anna are welcome to help.

It is wonderful here!! We have a lovely room, giant beds and a great bathroom. Maureen, the owner of this B&B, is incredibly friendly, making us feel so at home we don't even want to leave! We enjoy the stay here a lot after the tiny hostel rooms of the past days. We get our clothes washed and David basically just wants to stay in bed for the rest of the day. He does only get up once, because Maureen tells us she has two little lambs to bottle-feed and he and Anna are welcome to help.
Anna und Iris gehen in die Stadt um Essen zu besorgen. Dank Maureen wissen wir das es auf unserer nächsten Station keine Einkaufsmöglichkeiten gibt, also müssen wir Spaghetti, Sauce und dergleich für den morgigen Tag besorgen. Wir essen auch etwas in der Stadt, David bringen wir eine Pizza mit (Thunfisch / Zwiebel - warum auch immer jemand diese Kombination isst...) Alles in allem sind wir sehr zufrieden mit dem Tag und wir könnten kaum besser schlafen in den herrlichen Betten in dem wahrscheinlich soweit besten B&B auf unserer Reise.

Anna and Iris go into town afterwards to buy some foos. Thanks to Maureen we know that there is now shopping possibility on the way tomorrow so we need to take out spaghetti, sauce and the likes with us to the hostel. We have dinner in town and take a pizza home for David (thuna and onions - whoever eats their pizza with topping like that??) All in all it was a wonderful day and we could not sleep better than in those heavenly beds at the so far nicest B&B of our trip.
